Frequently Asked Questions
How many girls are on the line?
The number varies from year to year. In the last ten years, the number has ranged from 22-36 members. The 2011 LSU Colorguard includes 32 ladies.
How many times a week do you practice?
All members of the Colorguard register for Tiger Band as a class (MUS4250). The class meets Tuesday through Friday afternoons on the Tiger Band practice field. In addition, the Colorguard has two evening sectionals outside of Tiger Band. These sectionals are held on Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 5:40-7:00pm. That's only nine hours of practice!
Do members of the Colorguard get paid?
Yes! All members of the Colorguard receive a $1000 music activity award, paid in equal monthly increments during the fall semester.
Are there any fees to be on the line?
No. All equipment, uniforms and shoes are provided by the Band Department. This includes all travel expenses on away trips and meals on gameday. Members are responsible for buying their own tights (around $15/pair) and personal beauty products.
Are there summer commitments?
Yes. We hold three to four workshops during the summer to prepare for the upcoming season. The workshops for 2011 will take place in June and July on non-consecutive weekends. Final dates will be announced to those who make the line at auditions.
Attendance at Tiger Band Preseason Camp is also required of all members. Preseason Camp takes place in August the week before classes begin.
Who choreographs routines?
The captains choreograph all routines under the supervision of the Tiger Band directors.
Why don't you have a weapons line or a winterguard?
We are known for consistently presenting clean performances.. With a new show almost every week, we do not have enough time to devote to creating and cleaning a weapons unit.
As part of the Tiger Marching Band, the Colorguard is a fall-only activity. As such we do not currently have a winterguard.
What happens on gamedays?

10:00am-12:00 noon: Morning rehearsal for CG
12:00pm-1:00pm: Break, move to band field
